An Economy In Crisis.

An Open Letter To Industry Leaders

Dear Sirs:

My name is Stan Simon and I'm the owner of a small (very small), electronic service company, located in Orange County, CA. We're currently celebrating our 30th year in business, as an independent IC programming service, but doubt that we'll ever make it to 31 years.

Eight years ago, I had eight employees, working here full time, enjoying above average salaries. Today, because of these recessionary times, I now have two employees and we're barely surviving.

While this recession was caused by many different factors, many of which too complex for me to understand, one of the major reasons that I think contributed greatly to it, was the practice of outsourcing. It's ironic at this time, that outsourcing, which was intended to help American companies compete in this "global economy", in fact, is helping fuel this current crisis. Laying off masses of people here, taking money out of their pockets and in return, asking them now to buy your cheaper products. Unemployed, with no source of income, how is that to happen? A real catch 22 predicament, that you created.

I am taking this opportunity to write to you now, to suggest, that maybe, just maybe, it's time for us to term a new phrase in OUR stagnant economy, a phrase that I call INSOURCING. I think it's incumbent for companies like yours, who did its part in creating this crisis, to bring back to the U.S. some of the manufacturing monies, that you're currently spending overseas. Help make the playing field a little more level for us, fellow Americans, to compete. Give small companies like mine, the opportunity to hire more people. To put more money in their pockets. To buy more of YOUR products, live a better life and help expand the U.S. economy. And please don't feel that it's just an obligation or a handout. American, also means QUALITY. Remember, YOU and your stockholders, live here too.

A novel concept, in these troubling times. Helping Americans, make a living.

Like President Obama recently said, "It took years to create this problem and it will take years to fix." However, if this recession continues unabated, as it is, without your immediate intervention, for sure MY Company won't be around next year.

A heartfelt URGENT appeal, that I hope doesn't fall on deaf ears, for ALL of us.

Thank you,

Stan Simon
